Hearing His
Voice
"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give
them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch
them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than
all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand. I and My
Father are one."
- John 10:27-30 NKJV
Hearing His Voice
Do you hear His voice? Or, do the voices of the world, of everday life drown
Him out?
It is so easy to get cought up in all the hub-bub of family, work, school
and other pursuits, leaving Jesus 2nd, 3rd or even farther down our list
of priorities. If that happens to you, don't feel alone! That happens to
nearly all of us. It isn't easy to be a Christian at times - with so many
conflicting demands of life. And, the way the world is now doesn't help.
So many distactions, so much we can fear, so many sick and demented people
- the news, the gossip, the weather, the kids!!!!
What are supposed to do to keep our focus?
-
Renewing our minds -
-
Worship Him -
-
Give praise to the Lord in all things -
-
He didn't give us a spirit of fear -
-
He works everything out for good -
-
Prayer is the great ear cleaner -
Make time for Him each day - Daily devotionals
are great! However, be sure the time you spend isn't just a cursory reading
of some devotional book. Devotion to HIM is what is important. Spend time
in prayer first, asking for Him to cleanse you and make you new. Ask Him
to refresh you to hear His voice, to listen to the Holy Spirit, to have wisdom
and discernment, and especially to understand His Word, the Holy Scriptures.
Then, go ahead and read your devotional book. Look up the scripture references
and read the context of the reference. Ask the Lord to help you to apply
it to your life, to change an attitude that is wrong, to help you grow and
change and be more like Him. Then, be ready for the changes to occur in your
life....don't fight when He deals with you in that area.
After reading, play some wonderful music (I like
John Michael Talbot) and worship Him, praise Him for the
wonderful love He has shown to you.
