Creating a "French Country" Kitchen
Although creating a "French Country" kitchen is the theme of this page, you
can use many of the furniture items, accessories and fabrics in any room!
-
Colors: Off white, ivory, light beige, and taupe would work on walls, cabinets,
and large covered furniture. You want a light, airy feel so no strong colors
are used. My favorite wall color is French Vanilla!
-
Accent colors: dusty blues, darker taupes, soft yellows, or even a hint of
rose.
-
Decide what wall color you want. You want an almost monochromatic look to
your walls, carpeting, cabinets, or furniture. Try using brick veneer behind
the stove, sink and on walls that are small. It also works well as a wainscoting.
-
Accessories: old books, antique lamps, frilly doilies, lace, dried flowers,
plants, antique frames, old pictures, ornate vases, china pieces, etc.
-
Covered furniture: use soft, light patterns. If you have a piece that would
not fit this style (such as a sofa), slip cover it. Use the same pattern
on any chairs that need it.
-
Window treatments should frame the window. Tie them back with ribbons in
a bow.
-
Wood colors: light maple, pickled pieces, and painted ivory cabinets or shelving.
