Creating the "Cabin" Look
What is the cabin look? And more, how do you
achieve it? Where do you find the accessories that really make the look work?
In this section we will answer some of those questions for you.
Visit Hunter's Gifts for ideas!
The "Cabin" Look:
-
Your space can be large and open, but a smaller room works best.
-
Walls can be left white, but it is better to paint an off white at the least
on top with a wainscoting below. Wall papering is ok, too. Try to stay in
the theme of the "Cabin" look. Pine paneling is always a nice choice.
-
Begin visiting yard sales and thrift or antique shops (maybe your own garage!)
to find old fishing
creels, old fishing rods, lures, duck decoys, tin buckets, books about
subjects like: fishing, hunting,
wildlife.
Your selections should be rustic and eclectic.
-
Baskets make excellent
choices for storing magazines and other "modern" items. Be sure they are
natural colors.
-
Carvings are very popular in "cabin" decor. Bears, fir trees, fish and all
good choices.
-
Don't forget crochet throws,
quilts, and your
personal collections.
-
Hang some of your finds on the walls. Use baskets to display others. Don't
forget wall art with a sportsman's
flare!
